Mandolin and guitar bridge question?
Ok, I had two items on ebay: an expensive A-Style mandolin and guitar Cheap Travel. Both bridges were just below the sound hole which hold the strings. My question is, why are they moving?? If they move all the time, how is my instrument supposed to listen? Please Tell me if I glue on my instrument or do something else. Is this true for all mandolins? Please help, I'm really confused. ps: A bridge like mandolin this opinion (it is different from a guitar fill. For guitars, the bridge is where the strings are connected, for mandolin, the bridge "support" the strings that go above): http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges, _tailpieces / Mandolin_bridges / Randy_Wood_Vintage-style_Mandolin_Bridges.html
Good question. The reason why bridges are mobile because it is easier to keep the instrument intonation. Let me explain. Intonation is the ability the instrument to play in tune with itself. This is based on a relatively complex formula trigonometry, but can be achieved using a simple method ... 1) Once the instrument is given, measure the distance between the bottom of the nut (closest to the button) in the middle of the 12th fret. 2) Now, the game as far from the center of 12th fret to the bridge saddle, where the contact channels. 3) Play a harmonic on the 12th fret chain of low and compare this note that when you play the fretted note at the 12th fret. If the fretted note is lower than the tip moves the bridge away from the button. If it is higher, then move the bridge towards the key ... it will not take much! 4) Do step 3 again using the hi. You'll probably notice that the lower string will be back to the upper chain. Why are not the bridges glued in place? On short-scale instruments like a guitar or a mandolin Travel, they are particularly sensitive to changes in temperature, gauge strings, and even moisture. This allows the instrument to provide minor adjustments that would not be possible if glued in place. Besides that, things sticking up The tone changes dramatically beautiful.
