How to evaluate gemstone color

Although most people think only diamonds are classified, there are a number of criteria for evaluating colored gems. These are outlined in a classified report. The value of a gem is mainly based on its color. Here are the basics you need to understand a colored stone grading report.

To understand color, remember that there are three primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and three secondary colors that are the result of mixing the primary colors (purple, orange and green).
